The arrival of Midsummer will have brought delight to many – and not just those dancing around Stonehenge as the sun rose on the Solstice.
For many, this is the most enjoyable time of year. Alongside warmer weather and long daylight hours are lots of great summer events, with June bringing Glastonbury, Test cricket and grass court tennis in the lead-up to Wimbledon.
Unfortunately, this very same time was targeted for strike action and whatever one’s opinions on the merits of the case rail unions have put forward, there is no doubt this has been disruptive for many who would otherwise have sought to use the train to get to their summer events.
With little option but to use the car more this summer – especially if more strikes follow – it is important to make sure it is in working order. That can include making use of car windscreen repair services.
Few things can be more annoying than minor chips and cracks in a windscreen. But these still need to be seen to, because the alternative is to risk a crack widening, making the car unsafe and illegal to drive and ruining a trip while you get it replaced. The smart move is to get any damage seen to as soon as possible.
The initial set of strikes were staged on June 21st, 23rd and 25th, to the angst of people trying to get to places as diverse as Glastonbury and Headingley.
Speaking as the strike action was confirmed earlier this month, RMT union general secretary Mick Lynch said: “RMT is open to meaningful negotiations with rail bosses and ministers, but they will need to come up with new proposals to prevent months of disruption on our railways.”
That is a clear indication that the Midsummer rail strikes are unlikely to be the last and that motorists who want to travel around the country will need to rely on the car more than they might have expected.
