If you’ve recently had your windscreen replaced, then it is important to know how to take care of it so it lasts longer, and protects you against the elements.

When it has been replaced it may be a good starting point to check your windscreen wash and your windscreen wipers too, to ensure they are all in good condition and working. We have some tips for you to follow to protect and care for your new windscreen.

In the first two hours after replacement:

Do not drive your car immediately, or take a long drive. The adhesive used to fix the windscreen in place which needs to set properly to ensure it is weatherproof.

When getting into the car for the first time after replacement, be cautious of any broken glass, shards, or sharp objects that might be leftover from the replacement.

In the first 48 hours after replacement:

Avoid driving the car in the rain as it may weaken the adhesive.

While parked, leave the window open a crack to ensure there is equal pressure inside and outside the cabin of your car to help the adhesive create a perfect bond. This is also important when opening and closing the car door to avoid creating a pressure drop or increase.

If there have been strips of tape left on the windscreen after installation, do not remove them, as they are helping keep the windscreen in place. Leave them for two to three days.

Do not wash your car for the first few days, as power washers may dislocate the still-wet glue and prevent it from drying out properly.

Be gentle when driving and avoid sudden accelerations such as high speed, or drastic sudden braking as this may exert forces on the windscreen and dislocating its position. Driving over speed bumps/uneven roads can causing shifting of the windscreen adhesive.
