You might feel as though windscreen covers are an unnecessary motoring accessory, but there are actually a number of ways in which they can be useful and reasons to buy one.
The Sunday Times Driving recently picked out a selection of the best windscreen covers you can buy in the UK, many of which weren’t particularly pricey. The publication described them as “a cost-effective way to protect it [your windscreen] from extreme weather”.
It added that many people buy them to protect against frost and ice in the winter months, which is when you’ll typically see them in the UK. However, they can also be a great way to keep your car cooler and prevent sun damage in the warmer months too.
In addition, a windscreen cover can protect the glass from falling debris, and also has the added advantage of meaning that your windscreen will always be free of leaves, bird pooh and other debris that we routinely have to clean off our vehicles.
The publication pointed out that, as long as you buy a cover that correctly fits your car, it will easily protect your windscreen in any weather.
These accessories are also simple to fit. Many just need to be shut into your car doors on either side, while others might use suction cups, magnets or attach around your bumper. You should check the instructions for whatever windscreen cover you choose.
Of course, if your windscreen does suffer any kind of damage, it’s good to know you can call on us for windscreen replacement in the UK if you need it.
As we recently noted, if you fail to defrost or deice your windscreen thoroughly before you set off on a journey, you could receive a fine and points on your licence. Using a cover is likely to mean you don’t have this worry, as frost and ice won’t develop on your glass in the first place.
