Staycations have been growing in popularity over the last few years, and a third of Brits are planning to remain in the UK for their summer holiday in 2024. Anyone who is vacationing in Britain should make sure their car is in good condition though, so they can avoid breakdowns during their trip.
According to Go.Compare Travel Insurance, 33 per cent of survey participants said they are not going abroad this summer and are opting for a holiday in the UK instead, while an extra ten per cent are going camping or caravaning. Therefore, more than 40 per cent of us will be enjoying trips on home turf this holiday.
Before going anywhere though, it is important to make sure the car is in good working order and well-maintained, starting with the windscreen.
If you have noticed a crack or dent in the glass, it is essential to call windscreen replacement services straight away to get this sorted. A small chip can easily become a substantial crack if not fixed immediately, and a cracked windscreen poses a danger to both the driver and the passengers.
You should also give the car a good wash before a long trip to make sure the windscreen is clean and clear of any debris. The wipers should also be checked so they don’t just smear dirt over the glass when in use.
If you’re planning long drives, it is worth having a vehicle check, as this will give you confidence your brakes, lights, air conditioning and other electrics and mechanics are all working properly.
You should check the tread of your tyres as well, as heat can cause thin tyres to puncture more easily, while also having less grip on the road. Check whether yours meet the minimum tyre tread requirement, otherwise they might need to be replaced with new ones.
